The worst performers of the session were Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd. (T:), which fell 4.93% or 80.0 points to trade at 1543.0 at the close. Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (T:) declined 4.88% or 20.0 points to end at 390.0 and Nippon Yusen K.K (T:) was down 4.70% or 138.0 points to 2796.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1846 to 1718 and 197 ended unchanged.

USD/JPY was up 0.13% to 104.86, while EUR/JPY rose 0.07% to 127.11.
