Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the rose 0.15%.

The best performers of the session on the were Eisai Co., Ltd. (TYO:), which rose 5.18% or 495.00 points to trade at 10,050.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Fast Retailing Co., Ltd. (TYO:) added 3.11% or 2,530.00 points to end at 83,890.00 and Yaskawa Electric Corp. (TYO:) was up 3.09% or 140.00 points to 4,665.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were T&D Holdings, Inc. (TYO:), which fell 3.16% or 50.00 points to trade at 1,531.00 at the close. Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (TYO:) declined 3.14% or 23.00 points to end at 709.00 and Nikon Corp. (TYO:) was down 3.10% or 40.00 points to 1,250.00.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2279 to 1259 and 280 ended unchanged.

Shares in Eisai Co., Ltd. (TYO:) rose to 52-week highs; rising 5.18% or 495.00 to 10,050.00.

The , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 5.57% to 19.89.

Crude oil for January delivery was up 0.89% or 0.71 to $80.69 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in February rose 0.77% or 0.66 to hit $86.23 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.25% or 4.55 to trade at $1,814.15 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.42% to 134.87, while EUR/JPY rose 0.67% to 142.49.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 104.30.
