Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the added 0.74% to hit a new 6-months high, while the index gained 0.62%.

The best performers of the session on the were Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:), which rose 6.94% or 232.35 points to trade at 3,579.80 at the close. Meanwhile, Divi’s Laboratories Ltd. (NS:) added 6.10% or 220.20 points to end at 3,829.10 and NTPC Ltd (NS:) was up 5.03% or 8.70 points to 181.80 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:), which fell 3.78% or 34.25 points to trade at 871.75 at the close. UPL Ltd (NS:) declined 1.81% or 13.20 points to end at 717.00 and Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:) was down 1.41% or 54.45 points to 3,796.00.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were NTPC Ltd (BO:) which rose 5.00% to 181.75, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:) which was up 3.07% to settle at 235.10 and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:) which gained 2.39% to close at 4,537.25.

The worst performers were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:) which was down 3.76% to 871.75 in late trade, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:) which lost 0.94% to settle at 9,436.00 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:) which was down 0.78% to 2,529.75 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 998 to 868 and 66 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1713 rose and 1579 declined, while 138 ended unchanged.

Shares in NTPC Ltd (NS:) rose to 5-year highs; rising 5.03% or 8.70 to 181.80. Shares in NTPC Ltd (BO:) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 5.00% or 8.65 to 181.75.

The , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.07% to 16.13.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.82% or 13.50 to $1,654.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 1.48% or 1.28 to hit $87.81 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 1.57% or 1.46 to trade at $94.27 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.13% to 82.66, while EUR/INR rose 0.36% to 82.10.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.58% at 110.78.
