U.S. stocks mixed at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 1.14% By Investing.com

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher while losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the lost 1.14%, while the index lost 0.20%, and the index added 0.14%.

The best performers of the session on the were McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:), which rose 1.94% or 5.22 points to trade at 274.11 at the close. Meanwhile, Chevron Corp (NYSE:) added 1.65% or 2.93 points to end at 180.49 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:) was up 0.88% or 1.18 points to 135.94 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:), which fell 6.44% or 24.08 points to trade at 349.92 at the close. The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:) declined 4.59% or 8.91 points to end at 185.01 and Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:) was down 2.41% or 1.01 points to 40.85.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 7.43% to 131.49, Morgan Stanley (NYSE:) which was up 5.84% to settle at 97.01 and NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:) which gained 4.75% to close at 177.02.

The worst performers were Emerson Electric Company (NYSE:) which was down 6.82% to 91.24 in late trade, Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:) which lost 6.44% to settle at 349.92 and Mohawk Industries Inc (NYSE:) which was down 6.30% to 111.18 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Celyad SA (NASDAQ:) which rose 137.80% to 1.90, Calyxt Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 90.25% to settle at 0.35 and Avenue Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 60.48% to close at 1.99.

The worst performers were Viveve Medical Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 70.54% to 0.26 in late trade, Edesa Biotech Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 42.06% to settle at 1.46 and Angion Biomedica Corp (NASDAQ:) which was down 30.88% to 0.70 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1581 to 1490 and 89 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1945 rose and 1784 declined, while 146 ended unchanged.

Shares in Viveve Medical Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; losing 70.54% or 0.62 to 0.26. Shares in Angion Biomedica Corp (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; falling 30.88% or 0.32 to 0.70.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.67% to 19.36.

Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.56% or 10.70 to $1,911.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.42% or 1.14 to hit $81.25 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 2.56% or 2.16 to trade at $86.62 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.24% to 1.08, while USD/JPY fell 0.28% to 128.18.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.19% at 102.14.
