U.S. stocks lower at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 1.71% By Investing.com

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the declined 1.71% to hit a new 52-week low, while the index lost 1.51%, and the index lost 1.51%.

The best performers of the session on the were UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:), which fell 0.47% or 2.39 points to trade at 506.44 at the close. Meanwhile, Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:) fell 0.48% or 0.15 points to end at 31.40 and Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:) was down 0.52% or 0.45 points to 86.19 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Nike Inc (NYSE:), which fell 12.71% or 12.12 points to trade at 83.21 at the close. Boeing Co (NYSE:) declined 3.31% or 4.15 points to end at 121.18 and Walt Disney Company (NYSE:) was down 3.07% or 2.99 points to 94.46.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Charles River Laboratories (NYSE:) which rose 3.80% to 197.23, Weyerhaeuser Company (NYSE:) which was up 3.06% to settle at 28.60 and Twitter Inc (NYSE:) which gained 2.74% to close at 43.91.

The worst performers were Carnival Corporation (NYSE:) which was down 23.31% to 7.03 in late trade, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd (NYSE:) which lost 18.11% to settle at 11.35 and Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd (NYSE:) which was down 13.14% to 37.91 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were FingerMotion Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 82.16% to 3.37, SAITECH Global Corp (NASDAQ:) which was up 43.36% to settle at 3.24 and Avenue Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 39.03% to close at 10.08.

The worst performers were Atlis Motor Vehicles Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 39.91% to 20.40 in late trade, Aterian Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 37.06% to settle at 1.24 and Edesa Biotech Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 34.66% to 0.92 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1752 to 1358 and 111 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2132 fell and 1607 advanced, while 194 ended unchanged.

Shares in Carnival Corporation (NYSE:) fell to 5-year lows; down 23.31% or 2.13 to 7.03. Shares in Nike Inc (NYSE:) fell to 52-week lows; down 12.71% or 12.12 to 83.21. Shares in Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to 5-year lows; falling 0.48% or 0.15 to 31.40. Shares in Atlis Motor Vehicles Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; losing 39.91% or 13.55 to 20.40. Shares in Aterian Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; down 37.06% or 0.73 to 1.24. Shares in Edesa Biotech Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to 5-year lows; down 34.66% or 0.49 to 0.92.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.11% or 1.90 to $1,670.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 1.86% or 1.51 to hit $79.72 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 2.13% or 1.86 to trade at $85.32 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.08% to 0.98, while USD/JPY rose 0.23% to 144.77.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 112.10.
