Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NYSE, the gained 0.77% to hit a new all time high, while the index gained 1.48%, and the index climbed 2.12%.

The best performers of the session on the were Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:), which rose 4.08% or 8.84 points to trade at 225.28 at the close. Meanwhile, Apple Inc (NASDAQ:) added 3.42% or 4.37 points to end at 132.20 and Salesforce.com Inc (NYSE:) was up 3.04% or 6.58 points to 223.34 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:), which fell 1.67% or 4.91 points to trade at 289.29 at the close. JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:) declined 1.65% or 2.28 points to end at 135.76 and Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:) was down 1.22% or 1.64 points to 131.97.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Netflix Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 17.93% to 591.73, Ford Motor Company (NYSE:) which was up 7.58% to settle at 10.78 and Invesco Plc (NYSE:) which gained 6.32% to close at 21.53.

The worst performers were Bank of New York Mellon (NYSE:) which was down 7.03% to 42.60 in late trade, U.S. Bancorp (NYSE:) which lost 4.89% to settle at 45.72 and TechnipFMC PLC (NYSE:) which was down 4.10% to 11.24 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Obalon Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 471.43% to 9.200, Caladrius Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 108.59% to settle at 3.40 and Adamis Pharma (NASDAQ:) which gained 90.06% to close at 1.5300.

The worst performers were China Natural Resources Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 23.18% to 1.790 in late trade, BioLineRx Ltd (NASDAQ:) which lost 22.71% to settle at 2.450 and Gevo Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 21.17% to 8.695 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1911 to 1177 and 81 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1590 rose and 1478 declined, while 58 ended unchanged.

Shares in Netflix Inc (NASDAQ:) rose to all time highs; gaining 17.93% or 89.96 to 591.73. Shares in Ford Motor Company (NYSE:) rose to 52-week highs; up 7.58% or 0.76 to 10.78. Shares in Invesco Plc (NYSE:) rose to 52-week highs; up 6.32% or 1.28 to 21.53. Shares in Obalon Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:) rose to 52-week highs; rising 471.43% or 7.590 to 9.200. Shares in Caladrius Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 108.59% or 1.77 to 3.40. Shares in Adamis Pharma (NASDAQ:) rose to 52-week highs; rising 90.06% or 0.7250 to 1.5300.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 7.44% to 21.51 a new 1-month low.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.55% or 28.55 to $1868.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.04% or 0.02 to hit $53.00 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.25% or 0.14 to trade at $55.76 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.20% to 1.2104, while USD/JPY fell 0.35% to 103.53.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.00% at 90.477.
