U.S. stocks higher at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.64%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NYSE, the added 0.64% to hit a new 1-month high, while the index added 0.34%, and the index gained 0.64%.

The best performers of the session on the were Walt Disney Company (NYSE:), which rose 3.56% or 3.43 points to trade at 99.76 at the close. Meanwhile, Salesforce Inc (NYSE:) added 3.26% or 4.72 points to end at 149.62 and Boeing Co (NYSE:) was up 3.02% or 6.29 points to 214.32 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:), which fell 1.29% or 0.80 points to trade at 61.21 at the close. Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:) declined 1.24% or 0.46 points to end at 36.66 and Walmart Inc (NYSE:) was down 0.93% or 1.36 points to 144.77.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were American Airlines Group (NASDAQ:) which rose 9.71% to 16.83, United Airlines Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 7.52% to settle at 51.30 and Cognizant Technology Solutions Corp Class A (NASDAQ:) which gained 5.85% to close at 65.10.

The worst performers were Charles River Laboratories (NYSE:) which was down 5.99% to 232.15 in late trade, Bio-Techne Corp (NASDAQ:) which lost 5.14% to settle at 82.17 and Illumina Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 5.05% to 193.75 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Arrival Vault USA Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 100.00% to 0.54, Akerna Corp (NASDAQ:) which was up 70.49% to settle at 1.65 and Moxian Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 65.30% to close at 1.01.

The worst performers were Oramed Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 76.46% to 2.54 in late trade, Atlis Motor Vehicles Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 35.32% to settle at 6.52 and Universe Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 25.30% to 0.90 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2358 to 727 and 88 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2652 rose and 1058 declined, while 137 ended unchanged.

Shares in Oramed Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to 52-week lows; losing 76.46% or 8.25 to 2.54.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 10.72% to 18.83 a new 6-months low.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.18% or 22.20 to $1,901.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.20% or 0.93 to hit $78.34 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.50% or 1.24 to trade at $83.91 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.91% to 1.09, while USD/JPY fell 2.43% to 129.26.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.94% at 101.96.
