U.S. stocks higher at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.53% By Investing.com

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NYSE, the added 0.53%, while the index added 0.59%, and the index climbed 0.21%.

The best performers of the session on the were Chevron Corp (NYSE:), which rose 3.34% or 5.74 points to trade at 177.82 at the close. Meanwhile, Walt Disney Company (NYSE:) added 1.56% or 1.35 points to end at 88.02 and The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:) was up 1.50% or 2.81 points to 190.01 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were 3M Company (NYSE:), which fell 1.21% or 1.47 points to trade at 120.12 at the close. Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:) declined 0.51% or 1.34 points to end at 263.92 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:) was down 0.28% or 0.37 points to 131.86.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were APA Corporation (NASDAQ:) which rose 5.73% to 47.25, CarMax Inc (NYSE:) which was up 5.14% to settle at 60.14 and Hess Corporation (NYSE:) which gained 5.05% to close at 142.13.

The worst performers were Moderna Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 4.44% to 199.08 in late trade, Illumina Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 2.32% to settle at 191.24 and DexCom Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 1.97% to 111.44 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Expion360 Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 139.82% to 2.35, Akso Health Group DRC (NASDAQ:) which was up 109.95% to settle at 0.42 and Elys Game Technology Corp (NASDAQ:) which gained 45.38% to close at 0.18.

The worst performers were Applied Molecular Transport Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 57.77% to 0.43 in late trade, E-Home Household Service Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:) which lost 52.59% to settle at 0.64 and Mingzhu Logistics Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:) which was down 50.84% to 1.75 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2090 to 967 and 94 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1926 rose and 1745 declined, while 177 ended unchanged.

Shares in Applied Molecular Transport Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; losing 57.77% or 0.60 to 0.43.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.57% or 10.15 to $1,805.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 2.80% or 2.17 to hit $79.66 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 4.40% or 3.56 to trade at $84.54 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.23% to 1.06, while USD/JPY rose 0.38% to 132.84.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 104.01.
