Tech giant Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:) reportedly reduced its workforce by almost 1,000 people, Axios reports today.

The company reported a headcount that exceeded 220,000 at the end of Q2, meaning the latest job cuts affected less than 1% of Microsoft’s total workforce. The software giant said earlier that it is eliminating some jobs, although the total headcount is still expected to ultimately increase.

This move from Microsoft comes after the company cut less than 1% of its workforce in early July. Later in the same month, Microsoft said it will eliminate many open job openings.

Microsoft has now joined other major tech companies in slowing global hiring and cutting costs to reflect the global economic slowdown. Google (NASDAQ:) CEO Sundar Pichai told employees to expect a hiring slowdown for the remainder of 2022.

The Axios report didn’t mention which particular areas were affected by the job cuts.
