Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the added 0.19% to hit a new 1-month high.

The best performers of the session on the were Yamato Holdings Co., Ltd. (TYO:), which rose 6.47% or 137.00 points to trade at 2,255.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd. (TYO:) added 5.08% or 930.00 points to end at 19,235.00 and Fanuc Corp. (TYO:) was up 3.58% or 800.00 points to 23,165.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Dentsu Inc. (TYO:), which fell 2.91% or 125.00 points to trade at 4,170.00 at the close. Hitachi Construction Machinery Co (TYO:) declined 2.55% or 80.00 points to end at 3,055.00 and Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (TYO:) was down 2.38% or 12.00 points to 492.00.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1815 to 1762 and 249 ended unchanged.

The , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 1.68% to 17.00 a new 1-month low.

Crude oil for March delivery was down 0.67% or 0.53 to $79.15 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in April fell 0.64% or 0.55 to hit $85.85 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract fell 0.08% or 1.50 to trade at $1,927.90 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.22% to 129.57, while EUR/JPY fell 0.29% to 140.71.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 101.79.
