Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the gained 0.72%, while the index added 0.75%.

The best performers of the session on the were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:), which rose 3.47% or 14.40 points to trade at 429.30 at the close. Meanwhile, JSW Steel Ltd (NS:) added 3.11% or 20.60 points to end at 682.00 and NTPC Ltd (NS:) was up 1.79% or 2.90 points to 164.70 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:), which fell 1.71% or 68.90 points to trade at 3,962.00 at the close. Nestle India Ltd (NS:) declined 1.54% or 302.10 points to end at 19,259.70 and Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:) was down 1.11% or 41.25 points to 3,663.00.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:) which rose 1.81% to 885.00, ITC Ltd (BO:) which was up 1.78% to settle at 328.75 and NTPC Ltd (BO:) which gained 1.70% to close at 164.45.

The worst performers were Nestle India Ltd (BO:) which was down 1.51% to 19,263.80 in late trade, UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:) which lost 0.78% to settle at 6,526.10 and Wipro Ltd (BO:) which was down 0.54% to 405.60 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1185 to 693 and 40 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2115 rose and 1307 declined, while 173 ended unchanged.

Shares in NTPC Ltd (NS:) rose to 5-year highs; up 1.79% or 2.90 to 164.70. Shares in ITC Ltd (BO:) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 1.78% or 5.75 to 328.75. Shares in NTPC Ltd (BO:) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 1.70% or 2.75 to 164.45.

The , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.58% to 19.66.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.11% or 1.95 to $1,724.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 2.58% or 2.24 to hit $89.11 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 2.80% or 2.60 to trade at $95.62 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.09% to 79.78, while EUR/INR fell 0.09% to 79.25.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 109.79.
