Investing.com – Germany stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Frankfurt, the lost 0.19%, while the index fell 1.14%, and the index declined 2.91%.

The best performers of the session on the were Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (ETR:), which rose 4.54% or 0.94 points to trade at 21.63 at the close. Meanwhile, Fresenius Medical Care KGAA ST (ETR:) added 1.96% or 0.54 points to end at 28.12 and Covestro AG (ETR:) was up 1.82% or 0.63 points to 35.25 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (ETR:), which fell 18.49% or 71.60 points to trade at 315.70 at the close. Merck KGaA (ETR:) declined 4.49% or 7.70 points to end at 163.85 and Qiagen NV (ETR:) was down 4.11% or 1.87 points to 43.65.

The top performers on the MDAX were Aixtron SE (ETR:) which rose 3.07% to 27.17, Gerresheimer AG (ETR:) which was up 2.41% to settle at 59.60 and Hella KGaA Hueck & Co (ETR:) which gained 2.09% to close at 70.90.

The worst performers were Varta AG (ETR:) which was down 8.31% to 29.00 in late trade, Carl Zeiss Meditec AG (ETR:) which lost 7.06% to settle at 113.25 and Tag Immobilien AG (ETR:) which was down 6.91% to 6.20 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Aixtron SE (ETR:) which rose 3.07% to 27.17, Hensoldt Ag (ETR:) which was up 2.68% to settle at 22.95 and Siltronic AG (ETR:) which gained 1.55% to close at 59.15.

The worst performers were Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (ETR:) which was down 18.49% to 315.70 in late trade, Varta AG (ETR:) which lost 8.31% to settle at 29.00 and Carl Zeiss Meditec AG (ETR:) which was down 7.06% to 113.25 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 365 to 296 and 89 ended unchanged.

The , which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 1.50% to 28.15.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.37% or 22.65 to $1,633.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 2.01% or 1.65 to hit $83.72 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.98% or 1.78 to trade at $91.81 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.93% to 0.98, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.17% to 0.87.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.86% at 112.96.
