Investing.com – Australia stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Sydney, the lost 1.02%.

The best performers of the session on the were Adbri Ltd (ASX:), which rose 6.76% or 0.10 points to trade at 1.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Woodside Energy Ltd (ASX:) added 6.18% or 2.01 points to end at 34.56 and Challenger Ltd (ASX:) was up 4.64% or 0.30 points to 6.77 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Megaport Ltd (ASX:), which fell 11.80% or 0.78 points to trade at 5.83 at the close. EML Payments Ltd (ASX:) declined 8.57% or 0.06 points to end at 0.64 and St Barbara Ltd (ASX:) was down 8.00% or 0.04 points to 0.46.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 848 to 405 and 355 ended unchanged.

Shares in EML Payments Ltd (ASX:) fell to 5-year lows; falling 8.57% or 0.06 to 0.64. Shares in St Barbara Ltd (ASX:) fell to 5-year lows; falling 8.00% or 0.04 to 0.46.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 2.86% to 18.76.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.18% or 2.95 to $1,637.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 1.96% or 1.66 to hit $86.18 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.51% or 1.40 to trade at $93.81 a barrel.

AUD/USD was unchanged 0.05% to 0.63, while AUD/JPY rose 0.06% to 94.04.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 112.73.
