Amazon (NASDAQ:) is feeling the pinch of higher fuel costs and inflation and is now passing on some of those costs to merchants, who may in turn pass it on to customers.

The online retailing giant said Wednesday it would begin to charge a fuel and inflation surcharge of 5%, on average, to merchants using its fulfillment services in the U.S.

The new charge will be effective April 28th.

The surcharge amounts to an average hike of 24 cents per product and is not permanent, an Amazon spokesperson told Reuters.
