U.S. stocks mixed at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.08% By Investing.com

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Monday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher while losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the added 0.08%, while the index declined 0.39%, and the index fell 1.20%.

The best performers of the session on the were Chevron Corp (NYSE:), which rose 3.06% or 5.14 points to trade at 173.01 at the close. Meanwhile, Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:) added 2.11% or 1.91 points to end at 92.32 and Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:) was up 1.79% or 0.86 points to 49.04 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Boeing Co (NYSE:), which fell 2.48% or 3.15 points to trade at 124.05 at the close. Walt Disney Company (NYSE:) declined 2.00% or 2.15 points to end at 105.18 and Salesforce.com Inc (NYSE:) was down 1.67% or 2.79 points to 164.12.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Occidental Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:) which rose 5.68% to 67.72, NRG Energy Inc (NYSE:) which was up 4.21% to settle at 44.07 and Halliburton Company (NYSE:) which gained 4.07% to close at 37.57.

The worst performers were Twitter Inc (NYSE:) which was down 8.18% to 37.39 in late trade, Signature Bank (NASDAQ:) which lost 7.09% to settle at 186.93 and Expedia Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 6.02% to 123.85 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were AgriFORCE Growing Systems Ltd (NASDAQ:) which rose 65.87% to 2.77, Newage Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 65.82% to settle at 0.42 and Data Storage Corp (NASDAQ:) which gained 50.00% to close at 3.45.

The worst performers were Chimerix Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 60.85% to 1.66 in late trade, Predictive Oncology Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 45.81% to settle at 0.38 and Iris Energy Ltd (NASDAQ:) which was down 36.45% to 4.90 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1601 to 1570 and 112 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2264 fell and 1577 advanced, while 188 ended unchanged.

Shares in Occidental Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:) rose to 3-years highs; gaining 5.68% or 3.64 to 67.72. Shares in Signature Bank (NASDAQ:) fell to 52-week lows; falling 7.09% or 14.27 to 186.93. Shares in Expedia Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to 52-week lows; falling 6.02% or 7.93 to 123.85. Shares in Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:) rose to all time highs; rising 2.11% or 1.91 to 92.32. Shares in Chimerix Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to 52-week lows; losing 60.85% or 2.58 to 1.66. Shares in Predictive Oncology Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; down 45.81% or 0.32 to 0.38. Shares in Iris Energy Ltd (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; falling 36.45% or 2.81 to 4.90.

Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.79% or 14.22 to $1,822.42 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 2.95% or 3.20 to hit $111.83 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 2.45% or 2.73 to trade at $114.28 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.20% to 1.04, while USD/JPY fell 0.10% to 129.07.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.35% at 104.25.
