The best performers of the session on the were 3M Company (NYSE:), which rose 1.42% or 1.77 points to trade at 126.35 at the close. Meanwhile, Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:) added 1.06% or 1.16 points to end at 110.09 and Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:) was up 0.87% or 2.47 points to 285.76 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Salesforce Inc (NYSE:), which fell 2.14% or 2.85 points to trade at 130.42 at the close. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:) declined 1.38% or 1.97 points to end at 140.94 and Boeing Co (NYSE:) was down 1.08% or 1.93 points to 176.50.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were State Street Corp (NYSE:) which rose 8.16% to 80.43, Campbell Soup Company (NYSE:) which was up 5.98% to settle at 56.16 and Bank of New York Mellon (NYSE:) which gained 4.17% to close at 44.62.

The worst performers were M&T Bank Corp (NYSE:) which was down 7.61% to 148.15 in late trade, Brown Forman (NYSE:) which lost 7.29% to settle at 68.28 and Expedia Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 6.32% to 90.79 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Prometheus Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 165.67% to 95.80, Transcode Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 133.44% to settle at 0.98 and Vor Biopharma Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 41.86% to close at 6.10.

The worst performers were Ensysce Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 53.36% to 1.04 in late trade, Versus Systems Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 46.98% to settle at 0.79 and Bruush Oral Care Inc Unit (NASDAQ:) which was down 46.95% to 0.50 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1607 to 1465 and 105 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2213 fell and 1490 advanced, while 170 ended unchanged.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.91% or 16.25 to $1,798.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 2.38% or 1.77 to hit $72.48 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 2.28% or 1.81 to trade at $77.54 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.38% to 1.05, while USD/JPY fell 0.39% to 136.51.
