U.S. stocks lower at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 1.05% By Investing.com

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the fell 1.05%, while the index lost 1.48%, and the index lost 2.07%.

The best performers of the session on the were Dow Inc (NYSE:), which rose 2.92% or 1.97 points to trade at 69.51 at the close. Meanwhile, International Business Machines (NYSE:) added 1.11% or 1.53 points to end at 139.85 and Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:) was up 1.10% or 0.60 points to 55.01 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Salesforce.com Inc (NYSE:), which fell 4.83% or 9.00 points to trade at 177.23 at the close. Chevron Corp (NYSE:) declined 4.61% or 7.95 points to end at 164.58 and Walt Disney Company (NYSE:) was down 2.34% or 2.91 points to 121.66.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were United Airlines Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 9.31% to 50.85, AT&T Inc (NYSE:) which was up 4.01% to settle at 20.21 and American Airlines Group (NASDAQ:) which gained 3.80% to close at 20.22.

The worst performers were Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 12.31% to 156.56 in late trade, Freeport-McMoran Copper & Gold Inc (NYSE:) which lost 9.92% to settle at 44.95 and SolarEdge Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 9.75% to 254.15 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Cyngn Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 96.30% to 2.12, Swvl Holdings Corp (NASDAQ:) which was up 47.89% to settle at 6.30 and Revelation Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 23.08% to close at 1.28.

The worst performers were Voyager Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 28.15% to 7.25 in late trade, GWG Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 27.80% to settle at 2.00 and Elys Game Technology Corp (NASDAQ:) which was down 23.04% to 1.57 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2563 to 600 and 100 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2995 fell and 919 advanced, while 143 ended unchanged.

Shares in Salesforce.com Inc (NYSE:) fell to 52-week lows; falling 4.83% or 9.00 to 177.23. Shares in Walt Disney Company (NYSE:) fell to 52-week lows; losing 2.34% or 2.91 to 121.66. Shares in Elys Game Technology Corp (NASDAQ:) fell to 52-week lows; down 23.04% or 0.47 to 1.57.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 11.61% to 22.68.

Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.13% or 2.50 to $1,953.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.84% or 1.88 to hit $104.07 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.68% or 1.79 to trade at $108.59 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.09% to 1.08, while USD/JPY rose 0.33% to 128.30.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 100.59.
