U.S. stocks lower at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.63% By Investing.com

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the declined 0.63%, while the index lost 0.89%, and the index lost 1.12%.

The best performers of the session on the were Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:), which rose 2.44% or 2.39 points to trade at 100.35 at the close. Meanwhile, Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:) added 1.57% or 2.66 points to end at 171.91 and Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:) was up 0.91% or 1.86 points to 206.86 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Walmart Inc (NYSE:), which fell 2.94% or 4.19 points to trade at 138.39 at the close. Home Depot Inc (NYSE:) declined 2.55% or 8.02 points to end at 306.92 and Dow Inc (NYSE:) was down 2.24% or 1.19 points to 51.95.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were CF Industries Holdings Inc (NYSE:) which rose 5.21% to 107.76, PENN Entertainment Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 4.59% to settle at 37.63 and Moderna Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 4.57% to close at 179.03.

The worst performers were Hasbro Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 9.86% to 57.16 in late trade, Bath & Body Works Inc. (NYSE:) which lost 8.17% to settle at 33.06 and SVB Financial Group (NASDAQ:) which was down 6.73% to 219.76 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Opiant Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 113.83% to 20.10, Freight Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 113.56% to settle at 0.44 and Toughbuilt Industries Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 72.27% to close at 3.79.

The worst performers were Satsuma Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 83.22% to 0.68 in late trade, Sellas Life Sciences Group Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 43.96% to settle at 2.55 and Nuwellis Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 40.00% to 0.12 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2170 to 958 and 111 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2252 fell and 1562 advanced, while 160 ended unchanged.

Shares in Hasbro Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to 52-week lows; losing 9.86% or 6.25 to 57.16. Shares in Satsuma Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; falling 83.22% or 3.37 to 0.68. Shares in Nuwellis Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; falling 40.00% or 0.08 to 0.12.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.30% or 5.35 to $1,774.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 4.24% or 3.77 to hit $85.19 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 3.57% or 3.43 to trade at $92.56 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.22% to 1.03, while USD/JPY rose 0.77% to 139.87.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.53% at 106.72.
