U.S. stocks higher at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 2.66% By Investing.com

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NYSE, the rose 2.66%, while the index climbed 2.59%, and the index added 2.27%.

The best performers of the session on the were Chevron Corp (NYSE:), which rose 5.55% or 7.97 points to trade at 151.64 at the close. Meanwhile, Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:) added 4.66% or 1.20 points to end at 26.97 and Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:) was up 4.36% or 7.15 points to 171.23 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:), which fell 0.09% or 0.14 points to trade at 163.22 at the close. Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:) added 1.14% or 0.64 points to end at 56.66 and Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:) was up 1.67% or 1.44 points to 87.56.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Marathon Oil Corporation (NYSE:) which rose 10.54% to 24.96, APA Corporation (NASDAQ:) which was up 9.10% to settle at 37.30 and Devon Energy Corporation (NYSE:) which gained 8.66% to close at 65.34.

The worst performers were Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 8.61% to 242.40 in late trade, Twitter Inc (NYSE:) which lost 2.85% to settle at 42.59 and Carnival Corporation (NYSE:) which was down 2.70% to 6.84 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were LogicBio Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 637.61% to 2.01, Fednat Holding Co (NASDAQ:) which was up 308.70% to settle at 0.47 and Oblong Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 167.02% to close at 0.40.

The worst performers were Xperi Corp (NASDAQ:) which was down 41.85% to 15.12 in late trade, Clene Inc. (NASDAQ:) which lost 28.21% to settle at 2.01 and Pharvaris BV (NASDAQ:) which was down 19.30% to 6.19 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2739 to 479 and 107 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2836 rose and 1025 declined, while 255 ended unchanged.

Shares in Carnival Corporation (NYSE:) fell to 5-year lows; falling 2.70% or 0.19 to 6.84. Shares in Clene Inc. (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; falling 28.21% or 0.79 to 2.01. Shares in Pharvaris BV (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; falling 19.30% or 1.48 to 6.19.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 4.81% to 30.10.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 2.19% or 36.65 to $1,708.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 4.76% or 3.78 to hit $83.27 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 4.12% or 3.51 to trade at $88.65 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.25% to 0.98, while USD/JPY fell 0.06% to 144.66.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.44% at 111.59.
