Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the lost 0.61%.

The best performers of the session on the were Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (T:), which rose 16.23% or 62.00 points to trade at 444.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. (T:) added 7.40% or 91.00 points to end at 1,320.00 and Astellas Pharma Inc. (T:) was up 5.24% or 104.50 points to 2,100.50 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Pacific Metals Co., Ltd. (T:), which fell 4.65% or 180.00 points to trade at 3,690.00 at the close. Sony Corp (T:) declined 3.94% or 480.00 points to end at 11,715.00 and Yaskawa Electric Corp. (T:) was down 3.08% or 140.00 points to 4,410.00.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2431 to 1127 and 205 ended unchanged.

Shares in Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (T:) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 16.23% or 62.00 to 444.00. Shares in Astellas Pharma Inc. (T:) rose to 5-year highs; up 5.24% or 104.50 to 2,100.50.

The , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 7.70% to 20.74.

Crude oil for May delivery was down 2.61% or 2.56 to $95.70 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in June fell 2.36% or 2.43 to hit $100.35 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 0.07% or 1.30 to trade at $1,944.30 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.74% to 125.24, while EUR/JPY rose 1.01% to 136.58.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 99.82.
