Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the added 0.25%.

The best performers of the session on the were East Japan Railway Co. (TYO:), which rose 4.23% or 305.00 points to trade at 7,520.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. (TYO:) added 3.93% or 174.00 points to end at 4,596.00 and Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (TYO:) was up 3.60% or 290.00 points to 8,350.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Mazda Motor Corp (TYO:), which fell 3.80% or 47.00 points to trade at 1,189.00 at the close. Subaru Corp (TYO:) declined 2.73% or 72.50 points to end at 2,580.00 and SKY Perfect JSAT Holdings Inc. (TYO:) was down 2.51% or 14.00 points to 544.00.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1818 to 1612 and 339 ended unchanged.

The , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 1.74% to 19.15.

Crude oil for October delivery was up 0.75% or 0.66 to $88.44 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in November rose 0.73% or 0.69 to hit $94.69 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.28% or 4.95 to trade at $1,735.65 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.40% to 142.26, while EUR/JPY fell 0.12% to 144.35.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.29% at 107.79.
