Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the lost 0.21%, while the index declined 0.25%.

The best performers of the session on the were SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:), which rose 1.91% or 24.70 points to trade at 1,316.00 at the close. Meanwhile, UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:) added 1.80% or 126.10 points to end at 7,148.05 and HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:) was up 1.79% or 18.90 points to 1,073.70 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Divi’s Laboratories Ltd. (NS:), which fell 3.00% or 102.50 points to trade at 3,308.95 at the close. Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:) declined 1.99% or 7.00 points to end at 345.50 and Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:) was down 1.99% or 50.15 points to 2,476.00.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:) which rose 1.81% to 7,150.60, Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:) which was up 1.66% to settle at 2,160.20 and HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:) which gained 1.62% to close at 1,071.90.

The worst performers were Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:) which was down 2.11% to 2,472.10 in late trade, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:) which lost 1.54% to settle at 935.35 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:) which was down 1.26% to 1,779.60 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1106 to 793 and 69 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1803 fell and 1575 advanced, while 149 ended unchanged.

The , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.04% to 15.27.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.42% or 7.95 to $1,886.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.16% or 0.90 to hit $78.31 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.21% or 1.00 to trade at $83.67 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.05% to 81.59, while EUR/INR unchanged 0.00% to 87.80.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 102.83.
